If you are averse to visiting a brothel, massage parlour or hostess bar and you would prefer to make a pick-up directly off the street then there plenty of places in Hong Kong where street girls can be found.
If you are staying in a hotel within a few minutes walking distance of either of the city’s two red light zones (Mong Kok and Wan Chai) then it is likely for you to find street girls loitering outside the lobbies.
However, a brief walk into the heart of these two regions should provide you with ample opportunities for getting approached.
Approaching Street Prostitutes in Hong Kong
As ever with street pick-ups, make eye contact and amble rather than stride.
It’s best to remain open to approach but be prepared to say no and to walk away.
Some of the girls will rent apartments nearby but some also have access to hotels which ‘turn a blind eye’. Most will offer a menu of services but all will negotiate.
If you would prefer to negotiate up front then there are websites such as go141.com that list the contact details of hookers that work across the city; many of whom won’t have their own premises to rent but can take you to a suitable hotel or shared room.
Though mainly a residential area in the north of the new territories there is an increase in the amount of street sex workers in this district. Largely due to the number of police arrests in the prominent areas of Wan Chai and Mong Kok as well as supply outstripping demand. It means that working girls can charge more than they would otherwise be able to on the main city streets.
Prostitutes and street hookers are usually easy to spot around the built up areas and outside of hotels.
Yau Ma Tei
Situated on the southern tip of Kowloon, Yau Ma Tei and borders the Mong Kok red light district.
The area is popular with foreign visitors due to the amount of museums and historic buildings. The area is also home to the infamous Temple Street market which attracts a good number of local shoppers as well as tourists. For this reason, it is also a good place to hang back and watch for potential street girls.
However, the best place for a pick up is within the perimeter of the Yau Ma Tei market area and to the North in streets such as Shanghai Street as well as streets that run off Nathan Road.
Sham Shui Po
Situated on the north western coast of the Hong Kong peninsula of Kowloon and just outside of the Mong Kok red light district is an area known as Sham Shui Po.
The area is popular with tourists for shopping and is the home to the electronics hub, the Golden Shopping Centre. The side streets leading off towards the docks and away from the park have been earmarked by the Hong Kong government for modernisation and regeneration.
Sham Shui Po is one of the worst areas for urban decay. Whilst there plenty of sex workers who advertise their services online via go141, there are just as many who will try and ply their trade on the streets. The area around Kweilin Street is a renowned hot spot to pick up a prostitute.
Prices range from 300-500 HKD with Europeans costing more.
Some will have their own places they can use but as the area is quite poor, you should expect the facilities to be quite shabby. Try the busy roads of Lai Chi Kok Road and Nam Cheong Street.
A new town in the heart of the new territories, Tsuen Wan is a popular tourist spot for people seeking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
There are plenty of businessmen who stay in this area and as such a community of prostitutes have spotted an opportunity to make better money than in the city. Prices range from 300-500 HKD for a full service in this area and many of the women have deals with hotels so a pick-up can be arranged without you having to take her back to your hotel room.
Most women tend to congregate outside of the hotels and in busy streets. They are generally obvious on sight but will be more so if you try to make contact and linger on the pavements.
Most girls in this area are Chinese who have found it hard to get a permanent working career in the more popular parts of the city. Many are new to the trade and may have recently crossed over from mainland China. In which case they may be operating outside of the law without the relevant visas.
This makes the area of Tsuen Wan particularly popular, as they are less likely to attract the interest of the police.
